Huize Maris Stella / Savaneta 350A
Huize Maris Stella werd in 1952 gebouwd als woonhuis voor de fraters, beter bekend als het “Fratershuis”. Er bestaan nog verschillende historische opnames waarop zowel de fraters als jongeren uit Savaneta te zien zijn die hebben meegewerkt aan de bouw van het gebouw.
Op initiatief van zuster Ruiz werd met de fraters gesproken over de nood aan een verzorgingshuis voor ouderen. Uiteindelijk stelden de fraters het gebouw ter beschikking, waarna het in de jaren zeventig onderdeel werd van SABA, zoals we het vandaag kennen.
Huize Maris Stella was het eerste van drie verzorgingshuizen dat onder de Stichting Algemene Bejaardenzorg Aruba (SABA) viel. Het gebouw staat bekend om zijn bijzondere architectuur, die voor die tijd uitzonderlijk modern en elegant was, en vormt vandaag een waardevol historisch monument binnen Savaneta.
Tot op heden zet SABA zich hier met grote toewijding in voor de zorg en begeleiding van ouderen. Huize Maris Stella is daardoor niet alleen een plaats van verzorging, maar ook een symbool van geschiedenis, gemeenschap en respect voor de oudere generatie van Aruba.
Vandaag is het mogelijk om Huize Maris Stella te bezoeken tijdens een speciale rondleiding georganiseerd door SABA. Het gebouw is uitsluitend geopend tussen 11:00 en 13:00 uur.

Huize Maris Stella was built in 1952 as a residence for the friars, commonly known as the “Fratershuis” or Friars’ House. Historical recordings still exist showing the friars together with young people from Savaneta who helped during the construction of the building.
At the initiative of Sister Ruiz, discussions were held with the friars regarding the growing need for a home for the elderly. The friars eventually made the building available for this purpose, and during the 1970s it became part of SABA, as it is known today.
Huize Maris Stella was the first of three elderly care homes operating under the Stichting Algemene Bejaardenzorg Aruba (SABA). The building is well known for its distinctive architecture, which was considered elegant and innovative for its time, making it an important historical landmark in Savaneta today.
To this day, SABA continues to work here with great dedication, providing care, support, and companionship to Aruba’s elderly community. Huize Maris Stella is therefore not only a place of care, but also a symbol of history, community, and respect for the island’s older generations.
Today, visitors have the opportunity to explore Huize Maris Stella during a special guided tour organized by SABA. Please note that the building will only be open between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
